Re: A Tip on the Idle Speed Screw? 88 SPL. Well a mechanic figured out my idle problem. Seems that the fuel primer/enrichment solenoid was shot and was pumping gas into the carb all the time. The idle screw had been turned way up to get the carb to process the extra fuel without choking out. $160 plus labor.. Magen hall

It should lock in place until you pull the trigger under the handle. That little lever is the fast idle lever. It only works in neutral and allows you to rev it up to start and warm up your motor. The smaller fuel line does no allow enough flow thru it at WOT to feed a thirsty outboard so the fuel delivery is not fast enough to keep up with the demand.If the motor cranks when you jump it there are a couple of things that it could be, a bad 20 amp fuse, starter solenoid, ignition switch, safety neutral switch, or bad wiring. (I'm assumming the control box is in neutral). The 20 amp fuse is on the motor in a red wire coming off the solenoid.
